Nothing Will Work Unless You Do
Yup… that’s the invisible statutory warning that comes with all the fitness trackers you can buy. These trackers might show you how much you have walked, stayed active in a day and might even remind you to get up and take a walk if you have been a couch potato all day. However, at the end of the it all depends on how you much you take from it. Talking from my own personal experience, I have used around 3 different fitness trackers till date and two of these can be termed as smartwatches. For the first few days it was all about stats for me and I even used to take an evening walk to complete my daily goal of walking. But after a few days, when the charm was gone and I had new stuff to check out, the trackers were only a piece of ornament on my wrist. All they did was to show the time, and notifications from my phone. So, no matter what fitness trackers or how many of them you use, unless you are motivated enough to work out it won’t help.
Start with Something Basic, Like Your Smartphone
It’s not necessary for you to get a fitness tracker to start a healthy life. There are apps on your phone that could be tried first. Apps like Endomondo, RunKeeper and Runtastic Running and Fitness are a few that you can download on your device and keep track of activities you perform. Through most of these apps, you can see how much you ran, the distance covered and amount of calories burned during the activity. There are a few apps that also act as a pedometer and can be used for a few days of your workout plan, but as they are not that accurate, they should not be used as benchmarking apps. Apps like JEFIT Workout Exercise Trainer even helps you to create workout plans for gym and track your goals. Apps like Sleep As Droid can be used to track your sleep and also wake you up with smart alarm.
They Don’t Just Count Your Steps
Most of these fitness trackers have evolved as smart devices and the fact that they are constantly in sync with your phone, you can do so much more with them. For example, I always forget to drink water throughout the day and while a normal person like me should drink at least 2 liters of water, I was not even able to clock 500 ml. But thanks to the silent alarm facility and android app notification access to the smart watches, I was reminded to stay hydrated. Apart from that, these trackers help you to set a silent alarm to wake up in the morning, notify about incoming calls and messages and can also help you track your sleep. So if you are planning to use your fitness track for these miscellaneous tasks, it will be more useful.
Rising Up to the Challenge
Lastly, the only question that comes to mind is that are these trackers worth the money and the answer is not as simple as a yes or no. If you have been active and exercise was a part of your daily schedule, these fitness trackers will definitely help you achieve your goals. You will be able to track your overall daily fitness and challenge yourself to do better. If you have friends who share fitness goals, you will then be able to stay connected through social media and work together to achieve goals. The only place where these fitness trackers fail is when you buy it thinking that they will make you work out. At the end of the day, they will just beep on your wrist and it’s you who needs to decide if you want to be a couch potato or stay active.
